Hotels on Phu Quoc run from cheap guesthouses to five-star resorts

Phu Quoc is a big island, and where you sleep decides your whole trip more than the star rating does. A $50 room in Duong Dong town and a $50 room out on Bai Dai are two different holidays. Below: how each area feels, when to book for the best price, what to check before you pay, and which sites to use. For the island as a whole, see our full Phu Quoc guide.

Which area to stay in on Phu Quoc

The island stretches about 50 km north to south, so the district you pick sets how far you are from the beach, the food and the airport. Four areas cover almost every traveller. Beach details for each are in our Phu Quoc beaches guide.

Dương Đông (town)Budget, first-timers on a shoestringBusy, local, night market, cheapest rooms~15 min
Long Beach (Bãi Trường)First visit, everything within reachMost hotels, bars, restaurants; long sandy beach~15–20 min
Ong Lang (Ông Lang)Couples, quiet, villasCalm, spread-out resorts, fewer crowds~30 min
Bai Sao / Bai Kem (south)Best beaches, luxury resortsWhite sand, turquoise water, remote~30–40 min

Long Beach is the safe first choice. You can walk to dozens of restaurants, the night market and the beach, and taxis or Grab reach everywhere else. Duong Dong town, just north, has the cheapest guesthouses — five minutes on foot from the beach and right by the market. Ong Lang further north is quieter and greener, with spread-out resorts and villas; good for couples who want space. The south — Bai Sao and Bai Kem — has the postcard beaches and the big luxury resorts, but you are 30–40 minutes from the airport and the town, so plan on transfers.

📍
Pick by trip length: two or three nights, stay on Long Beach so you lose no time in transit. A week or more? A quiet resort in Ong Lang or the south pays off.
💬 "On Long Beach the range is huge — from budget guesthouses to five-star resorts, all within walking distance of the night market and the bars. In low season the five-star places drop to $59–80 a night. Duong Dong guesthouses are a five-minute walk from the sand." — traveller review, TripAdvisor, 2025

When to book and what it costs in 2026

Prices swing on season, star level and area. The high season runs November to March, when the weather is dry and the beaches are at their best; the low season (May–October) is wetter but far cheaper. Below are 2026 ballpark rates per night, in VND with a rough dollar figure (~25,000₫ = $1).

When to book

  • Cheapest months: May, June and September — 30–50% below peak
  • Most expensive: December to February, and especially the Lunar New Year and Christmas–New Year weeks
  • Book ahead: 2–3 months for high season, 3–4 months for the holiday peaks; a week or two is fine in low season
  • Sweet spot: early November and late March — good weather at shoulder-season prices. More on this in our Phu Quoc overview
💬 "JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay — rooms from about $239/night, rated 9.6 from 1,900 reviews. Bai Kem beach is fine white sand with calm, shallow water, great with kids. But note it's a 40-minute drive from the airport and the transfer isn't included." — guest review, Agoda, 2025

Booking tip:compare the same hotel on Booking.com, Agoda and Google Hotels — Agoda often runs cheaper for Asian properties. Then check the hotel's own site; sometimes the best rate is direct. Pay with a card that has no foreign-transaction fee.

What to check before you book

  • Area first. Long Beach, Bai Dai, Ong Lang, Bai Sao or Duong Dong — decide this before the star rating
  • Airport transfer. Is it included? From the airport to the south (Bai Kem) is 40 minutes and about $15–20 each way otherwise
  • Board type. BB (breakfast), HB (half board) or AI (all-inclusive)
  • Private vs public beach, and whether the pool is heated
  • Recent reviews — read the ones from the last three months, not the all-time average
  • Cancellation policy — free cancellation is worth a few dollars more when plans can shift

Common mistakes

  1. Booking on stars alone. A local 5-star at $59 and JW Marriott 5-star at $239 are different universes
  2. Ignoring the area. A $50 room in Duong Dong and a $50 room on Bai Dai are not the same trip
  3. Forgetting the transfer. From the airportto the south is 40 minutes; if it isn't included, budget $15–20 each way
  4. Leaving the holiday peaks to the last minute. The best hotels sell out 3–4 months ahead
⚠️
Watch the star rating.Vietnamese five stars and international five stars aren't the same thing. A local 5-star at $59 and JW Marriott at $239 offer a completely different level of service and facilities.

Booking sites and check-in for foreigners

Where to book

  • Booking.com — the widest inventory and free-cancellation filters; the default for most travellers
  • Agoda — strong in Asia and often the cheapest for Vietnamese hotels; worth checking every time
  • Google Hotels — fast way to compare all sites at once and spot the true low price
  • Airbnb — best for villas and long stays in Ong Lang and Bai Dai
  • The hotel's own site — sometimes beats the aggregators, especially for direct-booking perks
🛂
Bring your passport to check-in.Vietnamese hotels register every foreign guest with the local police, so the physical passport is needed — a photo usually won't do. Book with a card that matches the name on the reservation.
⚠️
Visa before you fly. Phu Quoc runs a visa exemption of up to 30 days for most nationalities arriving directly on the island, but rules vary by passport and can change. Confirm the current terms for your citizenship on the official evisa.gov.vn before booking.
