Below are nine destinations within 100 km of the beach, with distances, transport and 2026 prices in dong and dollars — plus the honest warnings about where not to go after heavy rain and where you will not get past the gate without a booking.

There are three rings of interest around Doc Let. The first is walkable from the resorts: Mũi Du headland, the fishing village, the salt fields. The second sits at 25–50 km and suits a scooter or a taxi: Ba Ho waterfall, the Cham towers in Nha Trang, the hot springs. The third, at 60–100 km, needs a car or a night in Nha Trang: VinWonders, Hon Ba mountain, Ninh Van Bay.

Within walking distance of the beach
The closest things are Mũi Du headland and Coral Cove, about an hour on foot from Paradise Resort along the shore. A little further sit Ninh Thủy village and the Hon Khoi salt fields. All three fit into half a day without a car: the headland in the morning, back by lunch, scooter to the village for seafood, salt fields at 16:00.
Mui Du headland and Coral Cove
A wild rocky point north of the beach. No loungers, no café, no lifeguard. What it does have is coral right off the shore, 5 to 10 metres of visibility in the dry season, and almost nobody. Locals come here to snorkel and picnic.
The walk is about 3 km along the water from Paradise Resort. The sand is firm and easy, but it is still an hour in open sun. The alternative is a scooter on the dirt track, roughly 15 minutes. Bring shoes for sharp rock (the last 100 metres are scramble), a mask and snorkel, and a litre of water.
After heavy rain the coral goes cloudy and snorkelling loses its point. Give it a couple of days.
Ninh Thuy fishing village
A working Vietnamese fishing village 5 km south. Round basket boats on the sand, nets, baskets, a morning market. The fleet comes in around 05:00, and you can buy prawns, squid and crab straight off the boat for two to three times less than in Nha Trang. The cafés on Doc Let do exactly that.
Market hours are 05:00–09:00 and 16:00–18:00. By 10:00 it has cleared out. If you want to arrange a purchase in advance, ask your guesthouse to call ahead or come with you. Almost nobody here speaks English.

Renting a scooter at Doc Let
Renting in Ninh Hải village itself is a lottery. Most people rent in Nha Trang and ride up (150,000 VND a day, ~$6). At Doc Let, ask at reception: GM Doc Let and TTC sometimes have their own bikes from 200,000 VND a day (~$8), but not always. Without a bike, realistically you can reach the village and the salt fields, on foot or by taxi, and that is it.
Hon Khoi salt fields: the best photo stop in the region
Đồng muối Hòn Khói is the largest salt operation in central Vietnam: 400 hectares, 30,000 tonnes of salt a year, 10 km from Doc Let. It is a workplace, not an attraction. No ticket booth, no guides, no souvenir stand. Just white geometric pans, dikes, barrows, and women in conical nón lá hats carrying salt on shoulder poles.
The postcard happens at six in the morning. At sunrise the white salt turns pink, the shift comes out, shadows run long, and there is neither heat nor a tour bus in sight. From 10:00 the light is overhead, the colours go flat, and photography is pointless.
When to come
The harvest runs January to July. Seawater is let into the pans, evaporates in the sun and crystallises. From August to December it rains, the pans flood and the white carpet disappears. If you are here in those months, go to the village or stay on the beach. There is nothing to see at the salt fields.
Best light is 05:30–07:00 at sunrise and 16:30–17:30 at sunset. In between there is no reason to make the trip.

GPS: 12.5700°N, 109.2500°E. Typing "Hon Khoi Salt Field" into Google Maps gets you there exactly. Park at the dike and walk along the water.
What to bring, and what to give
A hat or cap, because the sun bites even at dawn. Water. Repellent for horseflies. Wet wipes, because salt gets everywhere. Camera plus a spare lens: salt works its way into gear immediately, so keep it bagged between shots.
Ba Ho waterfall: the day's real adventure
Thác Ba Hồ is a set of three cascading falls in the jungle, 30 km from Doc Let. Under each one sits a natural pool three to five metres deep, and you can swim in all of them. Local teenagers jump from an eight-metre rock; you should not. Budget four to five hours for the full walk with swimming, plus travel.
Entry is 100,000–135,000 VND (~$4–5) per person, including a bottle of water on the token. Open 07:00–17:00, last entry 15:30.
Getting there from Doc Let
A scooter is the practical answer. Take QL1 toward Nha Trang for about 25 km, turn right into Ninh Ích commune at the "Ba Ho Waterfall" sign, then five more kilometres of country road. Thirty-five to forty-five minutes from Doc Let. Parking costs about 10,000 VND.

Grab will not come out to you here; there are almost no drivers pointing this way. Without a scooter, arrange a taxi in advance. A trick that works: ask the driver who brought you from Nha Trang to Doc Let to run you out to the falls and back, and save his number.

- Shoes with grip, because the rocks are wet and slippery and flip-flops are genuinely dangerous
- Swimwear under your clothes; there are no changing rooms up top
- A dry shirt in a waterproof bag
- 1.5 litres of water per person
- Repellent; the jungle mosquitoes here mean it
- Small notes in cash for entry, parking and fruit at the gate
- A waterproof phone case if you plan to shoot in the water
Safety
After heavy rain the rocks turn to ice, especially on the climb to the third cascade. Local guides simply do not go up on those days. If it rained in the hills the night before, stay at the first pool, where the path is flat.

Hon Ba mountain and doctor Yersin's house
Khu Bảo tồn Thiên nhiên Hòn Bà is a 21,000-hectare mountain nature reserve 100 km from Doc Let. At the top, 1,578 metres up, stands the wooden house of Alexandre Yersin, the Swiss-French physician who identified the plague bacterium in Hong Kong in 1894. He built it in 1915 as a research station for medicinal plants.
Today the house is a museum with a library, a stone table and a bed, restored in 2004. Beside it is a garden replanted with the same herbs Yersin used to treat poor Vietnamese farmers, whom he never charged.
Why come
Three reasons. Climate: the summit runs 10–15 degrees cooler than the coast, with cloud and fog year-round. After a week of heat at Doc Let, 18 °C feels like a gift. Biodiversity: 529 plant species, 43 of them red-listed, including the very rare Krempf's pine. And the road itself: 37 kilometres with 22 hairpins and a viewpoint at almost every one. That is the attraction before you arrive.
Getting there from Doc Let
Car or scooter only. An hour to the foot of the mountain (Cam Lâm district), then an hour of switchbacks. Two and a half to three hours each way from Doc Let.

Organised tours from Doc Let barely exist, because the place is not on the mass-market circuit. Realistically you go independently. And honestly: doing it as a day trip from Doc Let is punishing. What to know before you go
Warm clothing is not optional. The summit sits at 14–18 °C even in April, plus wind and fog. Jacket, long trousers, a light hat. A rain shell earns its place in any season.
The road is narrow and well surfaced, but 22 hairpins in an hour will make a first-timer carsick. If you are riding, you need real experience. In the wet season, October to December, do not go at all: visibility drops to a metre and the corners turn dangerous.
Park entry is free, parking about 20,000 VND. On top there is the museum house, the garden and a couple of makeshift cafés. Bring water and food.
Ninh Van Bay: the luxury cove next door
Vịnh Ninh Vân is an isolated bay on the far side of the peninsula from Nha Trang. Mountains around it, white sand between rocks, no road in at all. Inside are two well-known luxury resorts: Six Senses Ninh Van Bay (59 villas, from $800 a night) and An Lam Retreats. Seclusion in the Seychelles register, an hour from Doc Let.
Can you visit without staying?
Short answer: only with a booking. Every beach belonging to Six Senses and An Lam is private, with its own security. You will not be allowed to land without a reservation. What is actually available:
- Book the resort. Six Senses from $800 a night, An Lam from $400. Transfers included.
- A boat tour from Nha Trang. Day boats pass through the bay without landing at the resorts. The views of the cliffs and villas are excellent. From about $30 per person.
- A local fisherman's boat from Ninh Thủy. Arranged privately, 500,000–800,000 VND (~$19–31) for the boat, round trip. You can cruise past and swim off the wild parts of the bay.
How a Six Senses guest actually arrives
The standard routine: a car from Cam Ranh airport to the Six Senses Lounge in Nha Trang (60 minutes), then a 20-minute boat to the resort. From Doc Let, take a taxi to the lounge (50 minutes) or ask about a direct shuttle.

Is it worth going just to look?
If you have the budget for a night at Six Senses, go without thinking about it. If you only want to see the bay, take the boat tour from Nha Trang instead. Spending a whole day on a hired boat with no guarantee of good angles from the water rarely pays off. That one is for people who already enjoy boats.
Nha Trang in one day from Doc Let
Nha Trang is an hour away by taxi, 90 minutes by bus. Leave at 08:00 and you are at the Cham towers by 09:30, in the hot springs by lunch, and in the centre or at VinWonders in the afternoon. Three stops in a full day is realistic.

Po Nagar Cham towers
Tháp Bà Pô Nagar is a complex of four towers built by the Hindu kingdom of Champa between the 7th and 12th centuries. They stand on a hill above the Cai river; the main tower is 23 metres and dedicated to the goddess Yang Po Nagar. It is the first stop coming from Doc Let: the north entrance to the city, impossible to drive past.

Come before 09:00 or after 16:00. In between, coach tours from Nha Trang unload fifty people at a time and quiet photographs stop being possible.
Thap Ba hot springs
Mud baths, mineral springs and warm pools, a kilometre and a half from the Po Nagar towers, so the two combine into a half day. Locals come for the health claims; visitors come for the soak and the wooden tubs.

VinWonders Nha Trang
A theme park on Hòn Tre island, reached by a 3,320-metre cable car, the longest over water in the world. On the island there is a water park, rides, an aquarium and a safari zone. For families with children this is a whole day and nothing else.

Independent or guided?
Going independently is almost always cheaper and never locks you to a schedule. But if you are here for two or three days and do not want to negotiate transport, a tour closes a whole day in one transaction. For VinWonders it often makes plain sense: the transfer out of remote Doc Let costs about as much as half the entry ticket.

Mistakes first-timers make
Five that catch people out:
- Going to Ba Ho after heavy rain. Wet rock, a dangerous climb to the upper pools, mud on the access road. Wait two or three days after a real downpour.
- Climbing Hon Ba without warm clothes. The summit is 14–18 °C while the coast is at 32. Shorts and a t-shirt will have you cold in July. Bring a jacket, ideally two layers.
- Trying to reach the Six Senses beach without a booking. You will not get in. Security turns boats around. To see the bay, take the boat tour from Nha Trang.
- Visiting the salt fields in the wet season, August to December. The pans are flooded, the white carpet is gone, there is nothing to photograph. Go to the waterfall, the towers or a museum instead.
- Relying on Grab. In Ninh Hải, Grab barely functions; there are no drivers within range. Take the number of the driver who brought you, or arrange through reception in advance.

Nha Trang has the Po Nagar Cham towers, the Thap Ba hot springs, VinWonders, the promenade and a real choice of restaurants. Two or three stops fit into one day. On a short two- or three-day stay, stay on the beach and give Nha Trang half a day at most.
