Departures

Cabins leave in set time slots: 09:00, 10:30, 13:00, 15:30. Extra departures are added in high season and on public holidays.

When to arrive

Aim for 09:00— the first departure. Mornings have shorter queues, and the views from the cabin in the morning light are the best. Always check the time of the last return ride so you don't get stranded on the island.

How to get to the cable car

The station sits in An Thới ward, at the southern tip of Phu Quoc. From the centre of the island (Dương Đông) it is about 25 km, a 30–40 minute drive.

By taxi or Grab

The easiest option. Book a car in the Grab app so you don't have to haggle — the fare is fixed and shown up front, and you can pay by card.

By scooter

If you rent a scooter (150,000–200,000 VND / ~$6–8 a day), the ride to the station takes the same 30–40 minutes. There is free parking at the station. Note that many rentals ask for your passport as a deposit, and an International Driving Permit is technically required to ride legally.

Free Sun World shuttle

Since July 2025, Sun World has run free buses from Duong Dong to the cable car station — around 56 trips a day at 5–15 minute intervals.

By bus

City routes 17 and 19 reach An Thoi. Fare: 20,000–50,000 VND (~$0.80–2). Journey time is about 45 minutes. Buses are infrequent, so check the schedule in advance.

💡
Tip: the most reliable option is the free Sun World shuttle from the stops on Trần Hưng Đạo. For the way back, the shuttle or a Grab straight from the station is easiest.

What to see on Hon Thom island

The cable car takes you to Hòn Thơm island, home to Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park. You can easily spend a full day here.

Aquatopia Water Park

One of the largest water parks in Southeast Asia, and the main reason travellers come to Hon Thom. It is included in your cable car ticket.

The Aquatopia water park on Hon Thom is a large slide-and-pool complex

What's there:

  • 20+ water slides of varying difficulty
  • Lazy river
  • Wave pool
  • Kids' zone
  • Inflatable aqua park on the water
⚠️
Note: some slides have swimwear rules — check on site. Loungers and tables run out fast at peak times, so come early.

Kiss Bridge (Cầu Hôn)

Cầu Hônis a romantic bridge that has become a symbol of Phu Quoc. Its two halves reach toward each other but never touch — a 30 cm gap remains. The design is inspired by Michelangelo's "Creation of Adam."

Access to the bridge is included in your cable car ticket, along with a free drink. The best time for photos is sunset.

Hon Thom beach

A pretty beach with golden sand and clear water. There are lifeguards and lounger rental, plus water sports: kayaks, water skiing, parasailing. For more on the island's coast, see our guide to Phu Quoc beaches.

Exotica Village

A themed area with rides, including Mộc Sa Thịnh Nộ — the first and only wooden roller coaster in Vietnam.

Mango buffet

A buffet restaurant inside the park: seafood, Vietnamese dishes, desserts. On its own it is 390,000 VND (~$16). The combo with your cable car ticket is better value.

Sunset Town — the cable car station

The cable car departs from Sunset Town, a tourist district in the south of Phu Quoc built in a Mediterranean style. It is worth a visit even if you don't ride the cable car.

What to see in Sunset Town

The architecture. Bright facades, towers and arches — it all evokes an Italian town. The An Dương cable car station is styled after the Roman Colosseum.

Seaside cafés. San Ga Cafe and Panorama Cafe both look out over the sea and islands — a good spot for a coffee before the ride.

La Festa Phu Quoc. A Curio Collection by Hilton hotel right by the station, 200+ rooms — handy if you want to make it a two-day visit.

Evening shows

Kiss of the Seais Phu Quoc's flagship show: 60+ international performers, water effects, fire, lasers and a 7-minute fireworks finale. In April 2025 it earned a Guinness World Record as the largest permanent water-projection theatre in the world.

  • Time: 21:00–21:30 (except Tuesdays)
  • Ticket: 750,000 VND (~$30)

Symphony of the Sea is a jet-ski and flyboard show. Watch it from the Kiss Bridge or the beach. It runs daily from 19:30, tickets ~$18–28. For more things to do on Phu Quoc, see our guide.

Is it safe?

"Did the Phu Quoc cable car break down?" is one of the most-searched questions. Here's the reality.

Standards

The cable car was designed and built to European standards by Doppelmayr (Austria), the world leader in ropeway construction. It uses a modern 3-rope system with safety sensors that account for weather conditions, and it undergoes regular technical inspections.

Incidents

Brief stoppages have happened — usually due to strong wind or a scheduled check. There have been no serious accidents with injuries. In bad weather the cable car may close, which is a standard safety measure.

If it stops

Cabins have lighting and Wi-Fi. If it stops, stay calm — the system restarts automatically, and staff are trained for such situations.

💡
Note:the 12:00–13:00 maintenance break is scheduled servicing, not a breakdown. Don't plan your ride for that window.

Practical tips

Ho Quoc temple on Phu Quoc — an attraction near the cable car
The Hộ Quốc pagoda near the station is worth a stop on the way

What to bring

  • Swimwear and a towel — for the water park and beach
  • Sunscreen and a hat — there is little shade on the island
  • A change of clothes — after the water park
  • Cash — not everywhere takes cards

An ideal one-day plan

  1. 08:30 — arrive in Sunset Town, coffee at San Ga Cafe
  2. 09:00 — first cable car departure
  3. 09:15 — arrive on Hon Thom, Aquatopia water park (2–3 hours)
  4. 12:00 — lunch at the Mango buffet
  5. 13:00 — Hon Thom beach, water sports
  6. 14:30 — Kiss Bridge, Exotica Village
  7. 15:30 — return cable car ride
  8. 16:00 — stroll around Sunset Town, photos
  9. 21:00 — Kiss of the Sea show (optional)

Best time to go

The best season is November–April (dry season): clear skies, calm sea, the best views from the cabin. In the rainy season (May–October) the cable car can close due to wind.

⚠️
Don't forget: keep your ticket — you need it for the return trip. Check the time of the last ride, especially in low season. Come in the morning for shorter queues and better light for photos.
