Getting to Doc Let Beach in 2026: every route
You land at Cam Ranh and the beach is still 90 km away. Or you are already in Nha Trang and need 50 km north. There is no airport bus, a Grab from the terminal runs close to $50, and leaving the resort after sunset is its own small crisis. Six ways to reach Doc Let, from a $1.20 public bus to a pre-booked private car, with timetables, pick-up points and the part every other guide skips: the trip back.
Doc Let sits 50 km north of Nha Trang and 90 km from Cam Ranh airport. Everything runs along highway QL1A; the turn-off to the resorts is at kilometre 47, then 6 km of local road through the salt flats. The single most useful line in that table is the one almost nobody uses. The local operator Taxi Doc Let publishes a fixed 700,000 VND for a 4-seat car and 800,000 VND for a 7-seat between the airport and the beach. The desk inside the terminal quotes double that for the same road. One message the day before your flight saves roughly $30.
Short version. Cheapest is bus 3 at $1.20. Easiest is a Grab from Nha Trang. Landing at Cam Ranh with a booking at GM or TTC, take the resort shuttle. Flying in at night or travelling with a child, book a car in advance.
From Cam Ranh airport: four options
90 km and 1 hour 45 minutes: the CT01 expressway first, then QL1A through Nha Trang and Ninh Hoa. There is no public transport from the airport to Doc Let. Every budget route goes through a change in Nha Trang. What you pick comes down to your arrival time and whether your hotel runs a transfer.
Taxi from the arrivals desk
Mai Linh and Vinasun run official desks straight out of international arrivals. The price is quoted before you get in and does not move: 1,300,000–1,800,000 VND (~$52–72). Running the meter instead lands within about 100,000 VND of the same number, depending on traffic on CT01.
Do not negotiate with the men who approach you inside the hall. That is the one reliable way to pay double. The desks are staffed around the clock; the car is a Toyota Vios or a Hyundai Accent and swallows two large cases.
Grab
Grab is Southeast Asia's default ride-hailing app and it covers this route confidently. 900,000–1,200,000 VND (~$36–48) in daylight, up to 1,400,000 VND after 23:00.
- Install it before you fly and register on your home number. It works with foreign numbers and foreign cards.
- On landing, connect to the free airport wi-fi just long enough to book. After that the driver finds you.
- Set the destination to your resort name or Dốc Lết Beach.
- Pick GrabCar for a sedan or GrabCar 7 for four to six people.
- Walk up to the departures level. The pick-up zone is one floor above arrivals, not outside the arrivals door.
At night the drivers thin out. If Grab has not matched you in five to seven minutes, walk to the Mai Linh desk. The $20 you lose beats ninety minutes in an empty terminal.
Resort shuttle
GM Doc Let Beach Resort, TTC Resort Premium and White Sand Doclet all run airport transfers for their guests at 800,000–1,200,000 VND (~$32–48) per person. Book by email or through reception at least 24 hours ahead and give your flight number; a driver meets you with a sign and helps with bags.
Worth it for a late arrival, when Grab may not match, or with a small child, since car seats come on request. Not worth it for three or four people: one fixed-price taxi at 1,500,000 VND works out at 500,000 VND each, three times cheaper.
Pre-booked transfer
The middle ground between a resort shuttle and Grab. You pay by card in advance, and a driver waits with a name board.

Book at least 24 hours out; free cancellation is usually 24 to 48 hours. For four to six people a van beats two Grabs.
The budget workaround
No direct bus, but two of them stitch together: bus 18 from the airport into Nha Trang for 50,000 VND and about 50 minutes, then a change to bus 3 for another 30,000 VND and 1h30 to Doc Let. Total 80,000 VND (~$3.20) and three to three and a half hours.
Fine with a daypack and a morning landing. Miserable with two suitcases at midnight.
From Nha Trang: five options
50 km up QL1A. Fifty minutes to an hour by car, an hour and a half to two by public bus. This is the normal pattern: fly into Cam Ranh, sleep in Nha Trang, then run up to Doc Let for a day or an overnight. The spread is tenfold, $1.20 for the bus against $16–20 for a Grab. What you are buying is an hour.
Grab and Xanh SM
The default for couples and families. Grab Car: 400,000–500,000 VND (~$16–20); GrabCar 7 for four to six people, 600,000–750,000 VND. Xanh SM, the electric fleet on VinFast cars, prices similarly and fixes the fare in the app before you get in.
Order from QL1 or outside Lotte Mart, where cars are three to five minutes away. From the narrow lanes of the tourist quarter, expect a longer wait.
One local quirk: some drivers ask for 100,000–150,000 VND on top for the empty return leg, since the trip leaves the city. It is not in the app and not obligatory. Declining politely costs you nothing and does not affect your rating.
Metered taxi
Mai Linh (white with a green stripe) and Vinasun (white with red and green) charge 500,000–700,000 VND (~$20–28). The flag drops at 12,000 VND plus about 17,000 VND per kilometre; on a run this long the driver will usually offer a flat rate, and it usually beats the meter. Dispatchers answer in English: Mai Linh +84 258 38 38 38 38, Vinasun +84 258 38 27 27 27.
GrabBike
Order the motorbike icon instead of the car and you ride pillion for an hour up QL1: 250,000–350,000 VND (~$10–14).
Fine solo with a backpack. Not fine with a suitcase, a child, or in the rain, because QL1 carries a lot of freight and the helmet you get is a helmet in name.
Day tour
Nha Trang agencies sell a Doc Let, salt fields and fishing village day from about 600,000 VND (~$24) per person: minibus both ways, lunch, a guide and three or four hours on the sand.
What you give up is the schedule. Thirty to forty minutes standing on the salt flats whether or not you care, and three hours of beach instead of a full day. What else is worth doing from here is in our day trips from Doc Let guide.
Bus 3, step by step
Route 3 is the only scheduled public transport to Doc Let. It belongs to Quyết Thắng, runs every 80 to 100 minutes, and costs 30,000 VND (~$1.20).

You will see the route written both as "3" and "03". Same bus. The old route 2 no longer runs.
Where to board
The main departure point is Phía Bắc station, the northern one, on 23/10 street. It is ten minutes by taxi from the centre, or half an hour on city bus 4.
You do not have to go there. Bus 3 stops on request anywhere along QL1A: near Lotte Mart, at the 2/4 junction. Wave and it pulls over. For most visitors that is easier than getting to the station first.
Paying
- At the station there is a window marked "Doc Let" or "Ninh Hai". They print a ticket and you board.
- On the bus, the conductor comes round after departure. Say "Doc Let", hand over a 50,000 or 100,000 note, take your ticket and change.
- Conductors speak little English, but every one of them knows the words "Doc Let".
Cash only, and break your big notes first: nobody on board can change 500,000 VND. There is no ATM at Doc Let either, so take dong with you.
Where to get off
The last stop is at the resort turn-off on QL1A. From there it is 500 metres on foot along a paved road between the salt pans. On Google Maps the point is marked "Doc Let Bus Stop".
Staying at GM Doc Let, White Sand or Paradise? Show the driver your hotel on your phone and many will drop you a couple of hundred metres closer. No tip expected.

Riding it yourself
North out of Nha Trang on Trần Phú, onto QL1A, 47 km straight through rice fields, right at the Dốc Lết / Hòn Khói sign, then 6 km of local road through the salt flats to the resorts.
Sealed the whole way, no mountain passes, but QL1 is a freight corridor. Cruising speed on a scooter is 50 to 60 km/h and the trip takes an hour each way. Three places need attention: the Nha Trang bypass 10 to 15 km out where the trucks are thickest, the unsignalled junctions approaching Ninh Hoa, and the Doc Let turn-off itself, which has no lights and where passing lorries do not yield.

Petrol runs about 24,000 VND a litre and the 100 km round trip burns two and a half to three litres, roughly 70,000 VND. Shops ask for your passport as a deposit; offer a copy plus $100 cash instead and keep the original.
Licences and fines
In practice, traffic police stop foreign riders on the highway, most often around Ninh Hoa and Cam Ranh. With the paperwork you are waved on. Without it, you pay. The rental shop insurance (about 50,000 VND a day) covers damage to the scooter in a minor incident and nothing else, so arrange medical cover before you fly.
A car with a driver
For a family, or for anyone who would rather not ride. Arrange it through your hotel or a Nha Trang rental office: 1,500,000–2,500,000 VND (~$60–100) for the day, including the car (a Vios, or a seven-seat Innova), the driver and fuel. The driver's lunch (~80,000 VND) and parking (~20,000 VND) are on you.
The sweet spot is a full day out of Nha Trang: Doc Let, the Hon Khoi salt fields, lunch in Ninh Hoa and back in the evening. For four people that is about $20 each, cheaper than a group tour and far more flexible.

Getting around Doc Let itself
Doc Let is a 6 km strip between the sea and the salt pans. No buses, no Grab. The outermost resorts, Paradise and White Sand, are about 2 km apart along the beach.

The Hòn Khói salt fields are 4 km north, which is a bicycle or a xe om job. Ninh Hoa, for pharmacies, an ATM and groceries, is 12 km, and that needs a scooter. There is no cash machine at Doc Let itself.
Getting back: the part people get wrong
Leaving is harder than arriving, and almost every bad Doc Let story is about the return: the last bus missed, no cars in the app, a local driver naming whatever number he likes.
The last bus is 17:30
Route 3 leaves the Doc Let turn-off at 17:30 and that is the end of the day. Miss it and you are choosing between a taxi and another night.
Grab barely works here
Inside Doc Let, Grab shows no cars roughly four times out of five. There are no drivers based here; they only arrive carrying someone from Nha Trang.
- Reception. GM Doc Let, TTC and White Sand will order a car back for 400,000–600,000 VND (~$16–24). Give them at least an hour.
- The driver who brought you. Take his number on the way up and agree a return time. The price is usually the same both ways.
- Locals at the turn-off. Cars wait on the main road and will run you to Nha Trang for 500,000–800,000 VND (~$20–32). Haggling expected.
Back to the airport
90 km, 1 hour 45 minutes, plus Nha Trang rush hour. Leave four hours before your flight. Book the resort shuttle 24 hours ahead, or a Klook transfer, or simply keep the number of the driver who brought you. Do not plan on catching a Grab from Doc Let to Cam Ranh, because it will not come.
Six mistakes worth avoiding
One-way thinking. People Grab up from Nha Trang and improvise the way back. That improvisation costs 800,000 VND or an unplanned night. Fix the return before you leave.
Riding without the right permit. Fines roughly doubled in 2025 and police do check the Ninh Hoa stretch. Without a 1968-convention IDP your insurance is void as well.
Buying an "agency minibus". That is a day tour with three stops: salt flats 30 minutes, village 40, beach two and a half hours. Not a transfer.
Leaving after 18:00. The bus has gone, the airport desks have no cars this far out, and Nha Trang Grabs are all busy. Travel before lunch.
Booking the airport leg twice. A transfer into Nha Trang, then a second one out to Doc Let, costs about 1.5 times a single CXR to Doc Let car.
Forgetting the beach fee. The resort stretches at GM, TTC and White Sand charge non-guests 70,000 VND (~$2.80) per adult. The wild sand between them is free, and has no loungers, no shower and no cafe.

Yes, and it is a pleasant hour each way on sealed road with no mountain passes. Rental in Nha Trang runs 120,000–200,000 VND a day (~$5–8) and fuel for the round trip about 70,000 VND. Legally you need your home licence plus an International Driving Permit issued under the 1968 Vienna Convention; the 1949 Geneva-style permit issued in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand is not valid in Vietnam. Riding without one risks a fine from 2,000,000 VND and voids your travel insurance.
Bus if you have two spare hours, light luggage and a tight budget. Car if you are two or more, value the hour, or plan to return in the evening. That last point decides most trips: the final bus back leaves at 17:30, and after it the journey costs three times as much.
