Weather by region
South (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Vung Tau, Con Dao) — the height of the rainy season. Days run 30–34 °C and it rains almost daily: 18–22 days a month in Ho Chi Minh City and on Phu Quoc. The downpours are heavy but short — 1–2 hours in the afternoon, with sunny mornings. Mui Ne is the exception: just 60–100 mm of rain and 5–8 wet days. The southwest monsoon pushes swell onto Phu Quoc and Con Dao, making swimming tricky.
Centre (Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue) — the peak of the dry season. Nha Trang in June: 31–34 °C, water 28–29 °C, only 2–4 rainy days all month. Da Nang is hotter still (31–35 °C) and My Khe beach is at its best. Hue is the hottest city in the centre (32–36 °C) but stays dry. Crowds are noticeably thinner than in winter.
North (Hanoi, Ha Long, Ninh Binh) — tropical summer in full force. Hanoi: 32–37 °C, brutal mugginess, humidity 85–90%. Rain 14–17 days, sometimes prolonged. Ha Long is similar, plus storm days. A cruise is possible, but you risk a day lost to fog and rain.
Mountains (Da Lat, Sapa) — daily rain, but pleasant temperatures: Da Lat 22–26 °C, Sapa 21–26 °C. The Sapa rice terraces in June are vivid green and photograph beautifully. Wet trails get slippery, so trekking boots are essential.
Early vs late June — is there a difference?
In the south it stays reliably wet all month, with no meaningful change.
In the centre, early June is slightly cooler (31–33 °C) and it warms to 34–35 °C by the end. The sea heats from 28 to 30 °C. Good the whole month.
In the north the heat builds toward late June, peaking in the final week. If you're set on Hanoi, aim for early in the month when it's a couple of degrees cooler.
💬 "June on the central coast is the sweet spot — thin crowds, warm calm sea, and the odd short shower rather than all-day rain." — traveller reports, r/VietnamTravel, 2025
Can you swim in Vietnam in June?

The sea is at its yearly warmest: 28–30 °C on the central coast. Swimming is a pleasure. The only problem is the south, where monsoon swell makes Phu Quoc and Con Dao uncomfortable for a beach holiday.
| Resort | Water temp | Waves | Swimming |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nha Trang | 28–29 °C | Calm | Excellent |
| Da Nang | 28–30 °C | Light | Excellent |
| Hoi An | 28–30 °C | Light | Excellent |
| Mui Ne | 28–29 °C | Moderate (kiting!) | Good |
| Ha Long | 27–29 °C | Moderate | OK |
| Phu Quoc | 28–29 °C | Strong | Limited |
| Con Dao | 27–28 °C | Strong | Limited |
| Vung Tau | 28–29 °C | Moderate | OK |
June's winners are Nha Trang and Da Nang: calm, clear water and a gentle entry. Ideal for kids. Mui Ne is for kiters and windsurfers — the wind is steady and the swell works. Phu Quoc is a no for swimming in June: the southwest monsoon drives the waves and the west-coast beaches fly red flags.
Skip the airport queue in 5–10 min
In winter, immigration lines run 60–90 min. With Fast Track you’re met at the aircraft and taken through the priority lane. Arrange it before you fly.
Telegram managerWhere to go in June — resorts compared

June narrows your options. The central coast is the clear leader for a beach trip. The south only works if you're ready for daily rain and swell. The north is for sightseeing, and even then with caveats.
| Resort | Best for | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nha Trang | Beach + activities | Dry, ideal sea, VinWonders, diving | Hot (34 °C) |
| Da Nang | Beach + day trips | My Khe beach, Hoi An and Hue nearby | Hotter than Nha Trang |
| Hoi An | Beach + culture | Living-museum old town, tailoring, quiet | Like Da Nang |
| Mui Ne / Phan Thiet | Kiting, budget | Little rain, wind, low prices | Fewer attractions |
| Phu Quoc | Not recommended | — | Monsoon, swell, daily rain |
| Hanoi + Ha Long | Sightseeing (limited) | Culture, cruises | Mugginess, downpours, storms |
| Da Lat | Mountains | Cool air, nature | Daily rain |
The clear June winner is Nha Trang. Dry season, a warm calm sea and all the infrastructure. Prices run 20–25% below winter.
For active travellers — Da Nang plus Hoi An. Beach in the morning, day trips in the afternoon, dinner in Hoi An in the evening.
On a budget — Mui Ne. Minimal rain, steady wind and the lowest prices on the coast.
What to do in Vietnam in June

In June, plan trips out of Da Nang: day runs to Hoi An (a UNESCO living-museum town), Hue (the Imperial Citadel) and the Bà Nà Hills with the Golden Bridge.

What to pack for June

June is hot and humid everywhere. For the centre, pack the beach basics. For the south and north, a rain layer is non-negotiable.
Clothing
- Shorts, T-shirts, light dresses
- A long-sleeve shirt — for temples and sun cover
- A thin sweater — for aircon and Da Lat
- At least 2 swimsuits
- Non-slip sandals plus trainers
Protection
- SPF 50+ — the UV index hits 10–12 on the central coast; you can burn in 15 minutes
- A poncho — a must-have for the south and north (about 20,000 VND / ~$0.80 on the spot)
- Insect repellent — mosquitoes are active in the wet season
- A waterproof phone case — useful in the rain and on boats
Documents and money
- Passport valid for 6+ months
- E-visa printout or your visa-waiver eligibility confirmed for your nationality
- A Visa or Mastercard for hotels and larger venues, plus cash — many street spots are cash-only
- Some USD to exchange — the rate is often better than converting other currencies
Don't overpack — clothes are cheap in Vietnam and laundries are everywhere (from about 30,000 VND / ~$1.20 per kg).
Fruit season in June

June is the peak of the fruit season. Everything that was around in May is now even cheaper, and lychees are at their best.
| Fruit | Price per kg | Season |
|---|---|---|
| Mango | from 15,000 VND (~$0.60) | Peak: April–June |
| Mangosteen | from 25,000 VND (~$1) | April–July |
| Rambutan | from 12,000 VND (~$0.50) | April–August |
| Lychee | from 20,000 VND (~$0.80) | Peak: June–July |

| Watermelon | from 7,000 VND (~$0.30) | Year-round |
Best markets: Chợ Đầm (Nha Trang), Chợ Hàn (Da Nang). Tourist stalls mark up 2–3x, so buy where locals buy.
Common mistakes on a June trip

Heading to Phu Quoc. The classic June mistake. The southwest monsoon makes Phu Quoc's west coast unfit for swimming: waves, red flags, murky water. The east coast is better, but it still rains daily. Choose Nha Trang or Da Nang instead.
Booking a Ha Long cruise. Storm days in Ha Long are routine in June, and a cruise can be cancelled last minute. If Ha Long is a dream, shift it to October–November.
Skimping on aircon. The south and north are muggy 24/7. Sleeping without aircon is near impossible. Check the room description — budget guesthouses sometimes offer only a fan.
Walking in 37 °C without water. Hanoi in June is a real furnace, and heatstroke is a genuine risk. A 1.5 L bottle of water is about 10,000 VND (~$0.40) — carry one at all times.
Planning with no buffer days. If you're flying to the south or north, leave 1–2 spare days for bad weather. Rain can wreck a day trip or delay a domestic flight.
