Vietnam in July 2026: weather, resorts and prices
July is the hottest month in Vietnam. The central coast, from Nha Trang to Da Nang, is running at full tilt: sea at 29–30 °C, barely any rain, and prices 25–35% below winter. The south and north are deep in the monsoon, but the rain lasts a couple of hours and mornings are almost always clear. Below: weather for every resort, sea temperatures, prices in VND with dollar estimates, and concrete tips for July.

Vietnam stretches 1,650 km from north to south, so the weather splits the country in two on any given day. In Nha Trang it is 33 °C and dead calm; in Hanoi it is 37 °C with a downpour. Hue pushes past 37 °C, Phu Quoc drowns in monsoon rain. Yet the central coast delivers near-perfect beach conditions for the lowest prices of the year.

Vietnam weather in July — summary table

The nationwide average is about 30 °C, but the reality is harsher: the south and north run 33–37 °C at 85–90% humidity. The central coast is the escape.

| Con Dao | 28–31 | 24–26 | 27–28 | 200–300 | 16–20 | Limited |
All temperatures are in Celsius. The UV index on the central coast hits 10–12 (extreme). Sunshine hours: centre 7–9, south 4–6, north 4–6. Cloud cover in the south and north cuts direct sun, but the greenhouse effect from the humidity stays put — the "feels like" temperature runs higher than the thermometer.
Weather by region
South (Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Mui Ne, Phan Thiet, Vung Tau, Con Dao) — peak monsoon. Phu Quoc has its worst month: 300–400 mm of rain, wet on 20–24 days out of 31, and a southwest monsoon driving the swell, so beaches close. Ho Chi Minh City sits at 31–33 °C with near-daily downpours, though it is a touch cooler than May — the cloud cover gives some relief. Mui Ne is the island of stability: only 60–80 mm of rain, and the wind picks up — a paradise for kitesurfers.
Centre (Nha Trang, Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue) — still the dry season, but the heat is building. Nha Trang runs 31–34 °C with sea at 28–29 °C and just 2–4 rainy days. Da Nang hits 31–35 °C and its sea reaches the yearly high of 29–30 °C. Hue is the hottest city, up to 37 °C, so tour the citadel early in the morning. Toward the end of July rainfall in the centre starts to climb — the transition before the autumn rains.
North (Hanoi, Ha Long, Ninh Binh) — tropical summer at full blast. Hanoi runs 32–37 °C at 85–90% humidity, with rain on 15–18 days. Ha Long sits at 31–34 °C, sea 28–30 °C (warm!), but cloudy from the rain. Cruises are sometimes cancelled in storms.
Highlands (Da Lat, Sapa) — wet, but cool. Da Lat holds 22–26 °C with rain every day, though mornings stay clear. Sapa runs 21–27 °C and the rice terraces glow bright green — one of the most photogenic times of year. The trails are slippery, so good trekking shoes are a must.
Early vs late July — is there a difference?
In the south it is steadily wet from start to finish; there is almost no difference.
In the centre, early July is drier (20–40 mm), and by month's end rainfall can climb to 80 mm. If you are choosing between the first and second half, take the first.
In the north, the peak heat lands in mid-July. By the end of the month it eases off slowly, but the rain does not let up.
💬 "July is a great time to visit central Vietnam — Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hoi An sit in a dry pocket while the rest of the country gets soaked." — Tripadvisor forum, Vietnam, 2025

Telegram managerWhere to go in July — resorts compared

July narrows the choice even more than June does. The central coast is the only reliable option for a beach holiday. Mui Ne is for the adventurous. The south and north are only worth it if you are ready for rain.
| Resort | Who for | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nha Trang | Beach + fun | Dry, warm, diving, Vinpearl island | Hot (34 °C) |
| Da Nang | Beach + trips | My Khe beach, Hoi An nearby, low prices | Heat to 35 °C |
| Hoi An | Beach + culture | Living museum, An Bàng beach | Hot |
| Mui Ne | Kitesurfing | Best wind, little rain | Not for beach lounging |
| Da Lat | Mountains | Cool 22–26 °C | Rain every day |
| Phu Quoc | Not recommended | — | Monsoon, swell, 20+ wet days |
| Hanoi | Not recommended | — | Muggy 37 °C, downpours |
July's top pick — Nha Trang. It has it all: sea, service, things to do. Prices run 25–30% below winter. More in our Nha Trang guide.
For a cultural trip — Da Nang + Hoi An. Beach in the morning, old town in the evening. Hue and its Imperial Citadel are close by, but touring it in 37 °C heat is a real test.
For a mountain escape — Da Lat. At 22–26 °C it is a sharp contrast to the coastal heat. Coffee plantations, waterfalls, flower farms. Rain comes in the afternoon; mornings are free.

What to pack for July

July brings peak heat and humidity. Pack light, but don't forget the protection.
Clothes
- Shorts, T-shirts, light dresses — cotton or quick-dry synthetics
- A long-sleeve shirt — for temples and sun
- A thin layer — mall air-conditioning is arctic
- Two swimsuits — at 90% humidity nothing dries
- Flip-flops plus closed shoes for day trips
Protection
- SPF 50+ — the UV index hits 10–12
- A rain jacket — essential for the south and north, just-in-case for the centre
- Mosquito repellent
- A waterproof phone case
Documents and money
- Passport valid for 6+ months. Whether you need a visa depends on your nationality — check below
- Some cash to exchange (USD or EUR go easily); ATMs are everywhere on the coast
- A Visa or Mastercard for hotels and larger shops; keep cash for street stalls and markets
Don't overpack — Vietnam has cheap clothes and laundry everywhere (from about 30,000 VND / ~$1.20 per kilo).

Common July travel mistakes
Choosing Phu Quoc or Ha Long. Both are at their worst in July. Phu Quoc: 300–400 mm of rain, beaches closed. Ha Long: murky water, storms, cancelled cruises. Go to Nha Trang or Da Nang instead.
Planning a full day outdoors. In 35 °C at 90% humidity, heatstroke is a couple of hours away. The golden rule: be active from 6:00 to 11:00, take air-conditioning from 11:00 to 15:00, head back out after 16:00.
Skimping on water. Three litres a day is the minimum. A 1.5 L bottle is 10,000 VND (~$0.40). Always carry one.
Packing beach clothes only. Air-conditioned rooms run 18–20 °C. Without a layer you will freeze in a restaurant or on a bus.
Not checking for flight cancellations. In the rainy season domestic flights are sometimes delayed. Build a buffer between connections.
