Cam Ranh Riviera Beach Resort 5★ — the first resort on Bai Dai

The resort was built and is still run by Crystal Bay, a Vietnamese travel group that registered its own airline in November 2025. That single fact explains the free airport transfer, the free shuttle into Nha Trang, the all-inclusive rate, the guest mix — and the 25-storey block going up 150 metres from the main building.

The facts: what this resort is and what it costs

One hundred thousand square metres divided by 242 keys gives about 413 m² of grounds per room. Mövenpick down the road manages 440, Selectum Noa290. So you get nearly the roominess of the most spacious resort on the strip, with half as many people using it. That is why "quiet, no queues" keeps turning up in reviews.

Who actually owns this place, and why you should care

No international chain stands behind Riviera. It was built and is still operated by Crystal Bay Tourism Group, a Vietnamese company — and that separates it from every neighbour on the strip, where the signage belongs to Accor or to a Turkish hotel brand.

The difference is not cosmetic. Crystal Bay is not a hotelier: it is a travel group that flies guests in, houses them in its own property and sells them the excursions. In November 2025 it registered Crystal Bay Airlineswith a charter capital of 300 billion VND (about $11 million). The airline's stated focus is the Russian and Central Asian leisure markets — long-haul, seven to fourteen nights, all-inclusive packages.

So the owner of the hotel also owns the plane that brings its guests. The product was designed around package tourists from end to end, which is where the included transfers, the shuttle and the daily programme come from.

One English-speaking guest titled his TripAdvisor review "A Russian all inclusive resort" and did the counting himself: 280 of the 404 reviews on the page at the time of his visit were written in Russian. The buffet and the evening programme are calibrated for that audience. Reception and guest relations speak English perfectly well. The poolside quiz probably will not be in it.

That is not a flaw, it is a fit question. Better answered before you book than on day two.

The second consequence of 2015 is simply calendar arithmetic. Eleven years in, the gardens have grown in and the furniture has worn out. Both show up in reviews, and both are true.

Trivial until an insurance form asks. We covered the 2025 administrative reform separately; the practical takeaway is to use the current address, not the one copied from your booking confirmation.

Getting there: the transfer is in the rate, and so is the bus

The resort sits about twelve kilometres north of the Cam Ranh terminal, 18–20 minutes along the coast road. The part that separates it from the neighbours: the airport transfer is free on bookings of two nights or more. Not available on request — included.

Listings disagree on the distance. Trip.com says 11 km, Ostrovok and Coral say 12, TopHotels says 10, and the resort's own site measures in minutes: "20 minutes". The spread comes down to whether someone measured in a straight line or along the road. Work with twelve kilometres and twenty minutes.

Riviera sits further north than every resort we have reviewed so far:

Furthest from the plane, closest to the city. For a resort that lives on charter traffic that looks backwards, right up until you hear about the bus.

The resort runs guests into Nha Trang free of charge, three times a day. You book a seat at reception at least 24 hours ahead.

Price that out. In our Mövenpick review we measured Grab into the city at 400,000–550,000 VND (~$15–21) one way. A round trip for two costs the better part of $70. Here the same trip costs nothing and one request the day before.

That is what defuses the structural problem of the whole Bai Dai strip. These resorts sit in empty land, there is nothing outside the gates, and "let's have dinner in town" normally turns into a taxi negotiation. Here it turns into a timetable.

What is outside the gate

Nothing. Riviera stands on the same empty Nguyễn Tất Thành road as the rest of Bai Dai: ocean on one side, scrub on the other, fences in between.

The nearest shop and restaurant outside the resorts are the Korean K Mart and the K10 restaurant, roughly five kilometres south. The nearest real Vietnamese market, Chợ Cam Đức, is also about five kilometres away, but west, across the bridge.

Neither is walkable. So it is all-inclusive, or Grab, or that bus.

Rooms, bungalows and villas: what to book

The range runs from 35 m² to 151 m² across nine categories. The choice matters more here than at the neighbours, because 162 of the 242 keys sit inside one ten-storey block — and the block is where most of the wear complaints point.

Rooms in the block: 35–48 m²

The three Deluxe categories differ only in view and whether you get a bathtub. All of them are 35 m². The block runs to ten floors with three lifts.

This is the entry point and a sensible choice for a couple on a week's stay. It is also where the tired-furniture reviews come from, so ask in writing for a recently refurbished room.

Senior Deluxe Tripledeserves a separate mention: 48 m², ground floor, straight out into the garden, and by the resort's own description it takes three adults plus two children under twelve. For a family of four or five it is the cheapest way to stay under one key.

Bungalows and the pool suite: 45–75 m²

Premium Bungalow gives you 45 m² on the upper floor of a two-storey lodge with its own patio. Terrace Pool Suite steps up to 75 m² with a terrace opening onto a pool.

The middle ground, for people who find the block too hotel-like and a villa too expensive.

Villas: 115–151 m²

Pool Villa and Beach Front Pool Villa are identical in size at 115 m² and differ by position: the second sits right on the sand, and there are only three of them. Both have a private plunge pool.

Senior Suite is its own thing. One hundred and fifty-one square metres, four bedrooms around a shared living room, up to nine people. There is exactly one on the property, so a large group needs to book far ahead.

Do the maths per head. Nine people also fit into three Deluxe rooms, and at the top of the metasearch range — $97 each — that is $291 a night, about $32 a head. The resort does not publish a rate for the Senior Suite itself, so whether the suite beats three Deluxe rooms is not something anyone can work out from public listings. Ask for the price in writing and divide it by your party. Count per bed, not per key.

What to ask before you pay

1. Which way does the room face, and how far is it from the construction site.
2. Whether the new block will be finished on your dates.
3. Whether the free transfer applies to your specific rate, and from how many nights.
4. What exactly the all-inclusive rate excludes: which spirits, which water sports.
5. The deposit amount at check-in and whether cash is accepted.
6. The shuttle timetable for your dates.

Get the answers in text. A verbal promise at reception is not something you can hold anyone to.

All-inclusive, the water park and the daily programme

The resort sells two rate plans: BB, breakfast only, and AI, all-inclusive. AI covers three buffet meals, local alcohol, unlimited drinks at three bars, the water park, the kids' club, the evening programme and both transfers — the one from the airport and the one into Nha Trang.

One discrepancy worth checking: Coral lists breakfast until 09:00, Ostrovok until 10:00. An hour matters on holiday, so ask at reception.

Now the awkward part. There are two restaurants, Rosone and Orchidea. For comparison, Mövenpick runs six food and drink outlets, Selectum Noa seven restaurants and seven bars. With two kitchens serving a property where half the guests are on all-inclusive, menu variety hits a physical ceiling.

The numbers agree. Of six sub-scores on the Russian aggregator TopHotels, the lowest is food at 4.49, against 4.79 for rooms and 4.70 for service. English reviews summarised by the booking sites put it more bluntly: the hotel is built for all-inclusive buffet dining and has limited options beyond it.

AQual Park has four adult slides and one for children, free for guests. That is well short of the ten slides at Selectum Noa, but then the property is half the size. For a family with children under ten it is enough.

The daily programme runs in Russian: aqua aerobics, yoga, Zumba, beach volleyball and boules by day; karaoke, quizzes, bingo and a disco in the evening. If you were hoping to join in without the language, that is the part to set expectations on. The recurring complaint from parents is different: the children's programme does not change and is not split by age — the same activity for a three-year-old and a ten-year-old.

The construction on the grounds

Since 1 March 2025 a 25-storey building has been going up roughly 150 metres from the main block. Tour operators publish this in the "important information" panel at the booking stage: work runs during the day, with a stated handover of 30 April 2026.

Sources disagree on the hours. Coral and Onlinetours say 08:00–18:00; another listing says 06:00–18:00. Trip.com puts it more gently in 2026: construction of the second building is ongoing, but the noise is barely audible except for a faint hum near the water park.

What to do about it:

• Email the resort before paying and ask for the status on your exact dates.
• Request a room on the far side from the site and get the answer in writing.
• If you are travelling with a toddler who naps in the afternoon, this is worth checking rather than shrugging off.

There is an upside for anyone booking later: once the block opens, the resort finally gets the fresh inventory it currently lacks.

The beach, the pools and when not to come

The resort has its own beachfront stretch of Bai Dai: white sand, a gentle shelf, free umbrellas, loungers and unlimited towels. Add two large pools with a children's section and the water park.

The length needs saying plainly. Coral lists 169 metres; Vietnamese sources and the resort itself say "nearly 200". Even the generous figure makes this one of the shortest private stretches on the strip — Selectum Noa has 400 metres, Mövenpick more. The marketing phrase about "a wide stretch of Bai Dai" sounds better than it measures.

What compensates is density. Two hundred and forty-two keys against five hundred next door means fewer bodies per metre of sand, and loungers actually available.

Then there is the season. Bai Dai faces the open ocean, not a sheltered bay. From November to February the north-east monsoon arrives: wind, swell and, as English-language beach guides warn explicitly, rip currents.

Rates in autumn 2026 and how to book

Entry rates start at $65 a night (about 1,710,000 VND) on metasearch. The spread across sources is wide, and it is explainable: metasearch shows breakfast-only rates on distant dates, while the operator-linked sites quote all-inclusive on near dates.

Paying, and what to carry

Booking is straightforward on a foreign passport: Booking.com, Agoda, Trip.com and the resort direct all take Visa and Mastercard. The friction is elsewhere.

Carry cash. The resort sits five kilometres from the nearest shop, and the market at Chợ Cam Đức runs on đồng. ATMs sit in the arrivals hall at Cam Ranh airport, and you drive straight past them anyway — withdraw there. Vietnamese ATM fees run 30,000–55,000 VND (~$1–2) per transaction on top of whatever your own bank charges.

The resort does not publish a deposit amount for check-in. Ask by email in advance, together with the question of whether cash is accepted, and budget for it separately — you get it back on departure, but it sits frozen for the whole stay.

Two things to sort before you fly, both covered separately: your Vietnam visa or exemption, which depends on your passport rather than your residence, and a Vietnamese SIM or eSIM. Grab works on the strip but drivers are thin on the ground, and you want data before you need it.

The honest downsides

Start with the number the booking pages do not lead with. On TripAdvisor, Riviera holds 4.0 out of 5 across 808 reviews, ranked #6 of 18 hotels in the area.

Four out of five from the international crowd against nine-plus on the Russian-facing sites is the usual gap along this strip: package guests and independent travellers are comparing against different baselines. One detail sets Riviera apart, though. At the same 4.0 it holds the better position in the area — Mövenpick sits eleventh on that score, Selectum Noa ninth, Riviera sixth. Same number, different distribution inside it.

The TopHotels sub-scores show where it sags: rooms 4.79, service 4.70, entertainment and kids' facilities 4.6 each, food 4.49. For a property sold as an all-inclusive package, the lowest score landing on the food reads like a diagnosis.

The list:

• Worn rooms."The rooms need refurbishment, the wooden furniture is dated", from a June 2026 review. A year earlier one guest described torn bed linen and plaster fallen off the corridor wall.
• Construction on site. A 25-storey block 150 metres from the main building, status as of autumn 2026 unconfirmed.
• Two restaurants across 242 keys. The menu wears thin by midweek.
• Food is the weakest sub-score, 4.49, and English reviews call the offering outside the buffet limited.
• The kids' programme is not split by age — one activity for three-year-olds and ten-year-olds alike.
• The disco carries, even into rooms facing the sea.
• Staff are not always warm: "the staff are a bit gruff, no smiles", from a May 2026 review.
• The beach is short, 169–200 metres against 400 at Selectum Noa.
• Wind and swell from November to February, with rip currents on an open coast.
• Nothing outside the gate. The nearest shop is five kilometres away.
• The guest mix and the programme lean Russian. Reception speaks English; the evening quiz probably will not.

None of it ruins a holiday. The first two are structural, though: you cannot solve them by picking a different room, only by picking different dates or a different hotel.

Alternatives worth comparing

Riviera wins one scenario, and it wins it convincingly: you are travelling as a family, you want the all-inclusive rate, and you want the option of getting into Nha Trang without negotiating a taxi. No neighbour on this strip offers that.

If newness is the priority, look at Mövenpick or Meliá Vinpearl, both 2019 or later.

Saving money? Duyen Ha holds the cheapest entry on the strip. Want the widest food package instead? Selectum Noa is the one to price.

And if it turns out that a fenced resort in empty land is not your format at all, be honest with yourself and go to Nha Trang instead — cafes outside the door, a promenade, a city. Start with the Nha Trang guide, then look at Amiana on the headland and the Marriott on Hon Tre island.
